Electricity Reform and the Consumer

Electricity reform is essential to deliver Western Australians better prices, improved service standards and wider consumer choice.

Establishment of a new Energy Ombudsman is just one of a raft of consumer protection measures that have been put in place.

Under the new reforms, Western Power Corporation has been divided into four separate publicly owned utilities in the areas of Generation (Verve Energy), Networks (Western Power), Retail (Synergy) and Regional Power (Horizon Power).

Western Power Corporation is NOT being privatised.  Public ownership of these utilities will ensure the safety, security and reliability of electricity supply.

There has also been the establishment of a will be a new wholesale market for buying and selling of electricity and new opportunities.
